Grace Bremmer first learned about Gentex during a career fair at Central Michigan University. She was offered an internship in 2022 and returned this year to continue exploring a career in engineering.
“I grew up with a fascination for math, science, Legos, and problem solving,” she said. “My dad and grandpa were engineers. When my dad saw my enthusiasm for STEM, he encouraged me to attend Society of Women Engineer events in elementary school. Now, I am an engineering major at CMU.”
Her first internship at James Street’s final assembly lines gave her hands-on experience in process engineering.
“I used SolidWorks, a CAD software I learned in college and designed parts and a machine for the line. I believe my internship at Gentex provided a strong foundation of understanding of manufacturing that aided in my work at Centennial this summer,” she explained.
This year, Grace accepted a Mechanical Engineering internship, allowing her to explore another engineering discipline. She updates designs for mounts, heatsinks, and other parts of Gentex rearward-view technologies using specialized CAD software, as well as performing physical tests on her designs.
“This year has been a great overview of everything that happens in the engineering department at Centennial,” she said. “Catia CAD software is pulled up on my screen daily and I am always testing different ways to enhance or correct a design.”
Beyond engineering, Grace has also continued pursuing her other interests and passions during her time at Gentex. She loves connecting with experienced professionals in her field and using her leadership skills to organize events ranging from a Spikeball tournament to a movie premiere outing with this year’s summer intern class.
“I am thankful Gentex organizes fun networking opportunities for interns and encourages us to reach out to co-workers as well. Plus, West Michigan provides a beautiful location for outdoor adventure!”
Grace said her second internship at Gentex has helped her grow in new ways and she made the right decision returning here this summer.
“I have recommended interning at Gentex to many of my friends as it is a fantastic first look into manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, technology, and more,” she said. “I have been able to use my Mechanical Engineering education in the many projects I have worked on during both summers. I feel that Gentex really allows you to grow in your career, and I feel very fortunate to be working here,” she said.
