A Second Round at Gentex: Lindsey’s Career Journey

After the birth of her first child, Lindsey Walker decided to leave her role as a pricing analyst to become a stay-at-home mom. Eight years later, she was ready to return to the workforce, and Gentex was eager to welcome her back.

“It feels really good to be back,” Lindsey said. “After being home with my three children for several years, I felt like I needed a change. I missed being part of a team and being able to contribute positively to something.”

Lindsey started her career with Gentex in manufacturing working in IEC final assembly back in 2010. She graduated from Ferris State University in 2009 during the Great Recession when the job market was down. She decided to open herself up to other opportunities to get her foot in the door of a large company.

“I had been to Gentex in college with one of my classes. We were given a tour of manufacturing by a team leader who told us how Gentex likes to promote from within and has a lot of opportunity for professional growth.

When I heard on the radio that Gentex was holding a job fair, I decided to take the chance and see what came of it. Based on my experience I knew that Gentex was a good company and I wanted to be a part of it.”

After nine months working on the production line, she applied for an open position on the commercial management team as a pricing analyst. The role was a great fit! She was responsible for verifying that our OEC prices matched customer agreements.

In 2014, she said goodbye to Gentex to start a new journey raising her family. When she returned to the commercial management team in 2022, at times, it felt like she never left.

“I was amazed at how easy and natural it felt to just pick up where I left off,” she explained. “Our team is much larger than it used to be, which brings a new dynamic to the job. I am a very team-oriented person, so I really enjoy working with a large team.”

As a cost analyst, Lindsey works closely with the manufacturing, engineering, sales, and program management departments to determine customer pricing. She’s grateful for the chance to return to Gentex and for the flexibility this job provides when she is needed back at home.

“I enjoy the flexibility in this role that I can work from home if one of my children gets sick,” she said. “I am very grateful for the opportunity to be back at Gentex! It feels good to be part of the team again.”
